| Poseidon:
King of the Sea was a special presentation by Blacktown
City Council as part of the 2004 Blacktown City Festival, starring
Aerialize - Sydney Aerial Theatre and Circus Solarus
and with Light Design Australia providing the atmospheric
lighting and lasers as well as the opening and closing laser shows.
The three
night event was held at the Blacktown Aquatic Centre
where the indoor pool area was transformed into the spectacular
battleground fit for the Greek Gods Poseidon and Athena. |

The
event successfully combined the skills and talents of Aerialize,
an innovative aerial theatre group who stunned the audience with
trapeze and a wide range of acrobatic feats high above the water
and on land, and the unique style and comic performance of Circus
Solarus, a street theatre troup who combine
large puppets, stilts, percussion and stunning costumes.
Light
Design Australia created a unique and electrifying atmosphere
with colour and micro lasers being projected onto and around the
performers as well as into the pool. A water themed animated laser
show opened the event and a beam show helped celebrate the victorious
Greek God in the finale.

The
Story of Poseidon - King of the Sea centres on Heraclune
and his sailor that have come across the seas to the city of Athens,
where they thank Poseidon, the God of the Seas and Earthquakes,
for their safe passage. In order to light his trident, Poseidon
steals from Athena's eternal flame. Athena, the Goddess of war
and fire, challenges Poseidon. The two gods fight, generating
a great storm. In order to resolve their differences, Heraclune
declares a contest where the two gods must devise cunning gifts
for the mortals, and they, in turn will promise eternal gratitude
to the winner. |
